FAQs
What should someone know about working with you?
I work with individuals and couples who are ready to create big shifts in their relationships. While each client and couple are unique, my years of experience have taught me that all relationships are more alike than different. We will identify the beliefs you were taught by your family as a child and how those stories are dictating your relationships today. Together, we will write new narratives and scripts to create the vibrant, healthy relationships that you deserve. My clients are committed to our work together, which means attending weekly therapy appointments and completing any practice exercises that are suggested between sessions.
Are we too young/too early in our relationship for couples therapy?
Couples therapy works best for couples who like and respect each other. Sounds like an oxymoron doesn’t it? If what we see in movies and on TV is to be believed, couple’s therapy is often the last stop for two people on their way to a nasty break-up. The thing is, that isn’t what I see in my office every day. The calls I get are from couples who love each other and the life they are building together, and are really scared that the fights they’re having, the places they’re getting stuck over and over again, are going to ruin it all. That’s where I come in. We are not here to glue together the broken pieces of a shattered relationship, to build a new house from the ground up - we are here to fortify the strong foundation that already exists, and address the minor cracks before they grow and cause severe structural damage.
What was your path to becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist?
I have always been fascinated by stories of the human experience, and how our relationships shape our world, which inspired me to study History as an undergraduate at Columbia University. After years of working in the hospitality and wellness industries, I returned to school to obtain my master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy. I bring my background as a mindful living coach to my work as a therapist, and I love to support clients who are seeking to cultivate more compassion for themselves and within their relationships.
How do your own core values shape your approach to care?
One of the most important facts for any clinician to keep in mind is that we do not know what we do not know. While I have worked with many individuals and couples to create more fulfilling relationships, I am committed to not assuming that I know more about you than you do. You are the expert on your own life and experience, and my role in our work is to help you uncover YOUR truth.
How long are sessions, and how often do we meet?
Appointments are 50 minutes. I require weekly sessions at the beginning of treatment. From there, depending on needs, we can either increase or decrease the frequency of sessions. We will meet virtually, either using video or phone.
How long does therapy last?
Therapy can last anywhere from a few months to a few years. We will identify your goals at the start of treatment, and check in on your progress throughout our work together. When you feel your goals have been met, you may have new goals and want to pivot treatment, you may want to keep the therapy space to process life as it happens, or you may decide to bring our time together to an end. There is no “wrong way” to do therapy, and our work together will be constantly evolving to best serve you.
